How do you eat an elephant?
Oftentimes I look at something we hope for and think—there's no way that is going to happen. This was the case with our fundraising goal for the last half of 2026. It seemed impossible to me that we would be buying tickets for a return to Zambia by this time. Yet, in God's providence and by his grace—that is where we are.
Yes, God uses means to accomplish his ends—I texted, called, and met with pastors and friends to invite them into partnership with us—but all those efforts are meaningless without God moving. We have been overjoyed by God's grace.
We recognize that our story is not everyone's story. Sometimes the long, arduous process of fundraising takes missionaries more than a year to see results. I testify to how it tears at our hearts to yearn to get busy with service and feel held back by the need to find partners and senders.
This morning in a discussion with a pastor friend he pointed out how God chooses to use means to his ends. If God wanted, he could evangelize the world today from heaven, but he chooses to shape us into vessels of his glory through our dependent obedience.
So, how do you eat an elephant? One bite at time—if God gives you the privilege and power. Because without Jesus, you can do nothing.
I hope this reflection encourages you today!
