Join The Hunt Family on Our Mission to Zambia

Austin and Rachel Hunt are serving in Kitwe, Zambia, in partnership with local churches and Central Africa Baptist University (CABU). What began years ago as a sense of calling has now become lived ministry on the ground.

Our Story

Both Austin and Rachel grew up as the children of foreign missionaries. Rachel spent most of her growing-up years in France, where her parents served. After moving to the United States, she earned an undergraduate degree in biblical counseling in 2013, married Austin in 2016, and has been a member of Resurrection Church since its planting in 2015. She is deeply committed to caring for our three children—Caspian, Adelaide, and Cyrus (born in Zambia)—and to discipling women one-on-one within the local church.

Austin grew up in Kitwe and had a front-row seat to the planting of healthy, indigenous churches in Zambia. He left Zambia in 2012 with a desire to return equipped to teach and serve the church. During his years in the United States, he completed his undergraduate degree in Computer Science, helped with the planting of Resurrection Church during his seminary studies, and was later called by Resurrection Church to serve in pastoral ministry. He completed his M.Div. at Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary (DBTS) and, in 2024, our family moved back to Zambia.

Throughout 2025, Austin served on the faculty of Central Africa Baptist University, teaching Greek and biblical studies, while also being actively involved in the life of a local church. During this time, he discipled men, participated in men’s ministry, and has recently been asked to consider stepping into an elder role. Resurrection Church remains our sending church, and we continue to serve under the care and accountability of its elders.

Our Mission

Our mission in Zambia is threefold, reflecting a deep commitment to the spiritual growth and development of local churches:

  • Training Pastors at CABU. Austin teaches Bible courses at the University, accelerating the training of servant leaders in the African church for great commission living.
Our desire is to see a deeply rooted African church sending African church planters to spread the gospel across the continent.
  • Engaging in Local Church Ministry. We actively participate in the life and ministry of a local church, using our spiritual gifts to serve and build up the body of Christ.
  • Supporting Church Planting Efforts. In partnership with local churches in Kitwe, we are directly involved in planting new churches in Zambia and beyond, laying down spiritual roots for future generations.

A Call to Action

When we first moved to Zambia, Austin continued working in a secular role alongside ministry. This was intentional—it allowed us to get on the ground quickly and begin serving immediately. From the beginning, however, this arrangement was understood to be temporary.

That season has now run its course. The ministry opportunities before us have continued to grow, and balancing full-time secular work with teaching and church ministry is no longer sustainable. We are now transitioning fully into ministry and raising the support needed to return to Zambia and continue serving long-term.
