Training Servant Leaders
Last Sunday marked the first full month that we have been in Zambia. Several key things stand out to me as I reflect on the past month:
The Urgency of Our Mission
Miller Chungwe—a third-year student at CABU and pastor of a local church—died of malaria. He is survived by his wife and young children. Death is a reality that is sanitized and may seem rare to young people in America, but over here, many die in the prime of life. Each of us has been granted a finite number of breaths. Miller used his breath for the glory of Christ because he understood the urgency of the mission we have been given. Men like Miller are the reason we moved to Zambia—we want to help prepare them and reach Africa for Christ together. Pray that God provides for Miller’s family and raises up men to take up his ministry.

The Blessing of Those Who Have Tilled the Ground
Unlike the pioneer missionaries of the past, we did not arrive in Zambia and begin a ministry in a place completely devoid of the gospel. We have many missionaries and local pastors to look up to and learn from as we serve. For instance, this semester I am observing and assisting Kevin Sherman as he teaches second-semester Greek Grammar. It has been a blessing to watch and learn from him as I prepare to take his class starting in February 2025.
Pray that I will be able to aid students in understanding the Bible more clearly and know God more fully.
The Immense Need for More Workers in God's Field
Driving through Kitwe is unlike Lincoln Park, Michigan. In the States, we do not see many people on the side of the road walking to work or selling fruits and vegetables. We do not have seven- and eight-year-old children coming up to our car windows asking for food. In Kitwe, these things are a daily reality. You are struck with the fact that you can never fulfill the needs that people have on your own.
God's strategy for eternally saving the destitute is for his church to fulfill the commission given them by their king—Jesus Christ. Jesus said:
All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
If our Lord's command is for someone else, it may be time to examine ourselves. Most likely, the good life has become a distraction.
The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.
Join me in praying for God to send more people to Africa to spread the good news about Jesus Christ.
Thank you for praying for us and investing in our ministry. May God's name be sung from every corner of the globe!
Jesus Over Everything,
